a crewless ship carrying the damn'd through the fog-bound depths of purgatory and limbo. every character that wakes up on the deck of the Dutchman has one particular sin from their past life hanging about their neck in the form of a chain - and will not be sent on their way until they have either atoned for their own sin or assisted someone else in atoning for theirs. the writing on the passenger's chains may not be legible at first - the sin reflects the self-awareness of the passenger's sense of guilt, and may even change should the passenger decide their worst 'crime' in life isn't what was originally inscribed. the ship's course cannot be changed, no matter how much sail is put on or how far the ship's wheel is turned. littered around the cabins and decks of the Dutchman are various little anachronistic objects and items - batteries, empty crisp packets, a 1940s match case, a broken futuristic gun inscribed with alien hieroglyphs - that suggest the current passengers are not the first to find themselves living in the Dutchman's confines. |
